Who is Lucifer?
The name Lucifer appears in the Hebrew once in the KJV bible. Most have assumed this is the Devil.
Who is this? Some say he is the Satan. Some say he is an earthly king. See Ezekiel 28:12-19 as well.
Lucifer: Hebrew # 1966 "haylale" - light bearer, shining one, morning star (Thayer)
Isaiah 14
12 “ How you are fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer, son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground,
You who weakened the nations!
13 For you have said in your heart:
‘ I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;
I will also sit on the mount of the congregation
On the farthest sides of the north;
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
I will be like the Most High.’
15 Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol,
To the lowest depths of the Pit.
For some reason the translators of the KJV chose "Lucifer" for what should have been rendered "morning star" in Isaiah 14. Lucifer has since become known as another name for Satan or the Devil. Some of the newer bible translations have correctly translated it "morning star" or "day star". So is this a reference to Satan or something else?
- 2 Peter 1:19
And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;
- Revelation 2:28
and I will give him the morning star.
- Revelation 22:16
“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”
